This is a wonderful hand carved Mule Chest made in England circa 1800. The chest rests on a nice original bracket foot. There are two drawers to the base that have beautifully carved arched fronts. The left side of the front panel is well carved with two large Keys crossed. The middle panel is carved with Foliate Designs. The right side panel is carved with two mideval Battle Axes crossed. The top has three panels. Both the right and left sides have a beautiful Carved Arched panel to the base with a Lozenge Carved above. The original iron hardware is on both the drawers. The hinges to the lid are hand wrought Rat Tail Hinges. The finish and the physical condition are original and excellent. This is a very unusually carved, wonderful example of a great mule Chest ( a blanket chest with drawers ). It measures 48 in. wide x 22 in. deep x 29 1/2 in. tall.
